What I’m Reading – When Jesus Wept

12 Apr
My Thoughts

I have read quite a few books on the story of Martha and Mary, but When Jesus Wept is the first book I have read told from the perspective of Lazarus. His story begins a year after he had lost his wife and baby in childbirth. He is just emerging from his time of mourning and has yet to meet Jesus. When Jesus Wept is about Lazarus’ friendship with Jesus and the many lessons he learns about faith and forgiveness along the way.

One of my favorite parts of the story is when Lazarus first sits down with Jesus after seeing Him baptized by John and hearing Him teach from a distance. Jesus begins the time together by asking Lazarus about his vineyards and listening to him. He then uses what Lazarus knows to share about being connected to the vine. I also really loved seeing Jesus teach and heal others through Lazarus’ eyes. The moment he witnesses between Jesus and his sister, Mary, was beautiful.

When Jesus Wept is a captivating read and I adored it. I couldn’t put
it down and it is one of those books that I will read over and over again.

When Jesus Wept Thoene iPad Giveaawy

About the Book
Lazarus occupies a surprising position in the Gospel accounts. Widely known as the man Jesus raised from the dead, his story is actually much broader and richer than that. Living as he did at Bethany, near Jerusalem, Lazarus was uniquely placed to witness the swirl of events around Jesus. When Jesus Wept, the first novel in The Jerusalem Chronicles series by bestselling authors Bodie and Brock Thoene, unfolds the turbulent times in Judea during Jesus’ ministry, centering on the friendship between Jesus and Lazarus. With rich insights from vineyard owners and vine dressers, the Thoenes explore the metaphor of Jesus as the True Vine, harvesting the ancient secrets found in the Old Testament. Weaving the life of Lazarus, who owned a vineyard, into the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ will help you understand it is the hand of Love Divine that holds the knife, that cuts and breaks with such tender and loving touch, and that we who have born some fruit, after the pruning, can bear much more.
About the Authors

Bodie and Brock Thoene (pronounced Tay-nee) are bestselling authors of over sixty-five works of historical fiction. What I’m Reading – Love In A Broken Vessel

16 Mar
My Thoughts

Love in a Broken Vessel is a heartbreaking yet beautiful love story. Mesu Andrews shares the fictionalized story of Bible characters Hosea and Gomer and I absolutely loved it. From the first page to the last one I was drawn into their lives.

Hosea is a prophet who God tells to marry a prostitute. He had no idea that prostitute would be his childhood friend, Gomer. God wanted him to marry her to be a reflection of His love for Israel. Gomer marries him reluctantly, but rejects and runs from Hosea’s love over and over again. It is only when Hosea takes her out to a place and leaves her alone that she not only learns to trust in his love, but  she also learns to trust in God’s love.

This is a beautiful story of heartbreak and redemption. It is the reflection of God’s love for us. His unconditional love that assures us that He is always with us and will never leave us.

He finds her broken and abused, unwilling to trust Hosea or his God. But when marrying Hosea becomes her only choice, Gomer does what she’s good at–she survives. What I’m Reading – Shattered

28 Feb
My Thoughts

Imagine waking up in the middle of the night to sounds coming from downstairs that have to be someone in your home. You go downstairs to investigate only to find your brother at the sink washing off blood that covers him. Shortly after an officer, who is a close friend of the family and secretly in love with you, is standing at your door to arrest your brother.

This is how Dani Pettrey’s fantastic new book, Shattered, begins. I absolutely LOVED this romantic thriller that kept me up way too late reading as I couldn’t put it down. Shattered is one of those books that keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page and wanting more even after that.

What I’m Reading – Firefly Island

28 Feb
My Thoughts

One of my guilty pleasures is reading inspirational romances. I love a good love story. Reading about how a couple meet, fall in love, and live happily ever after. I know that it doesn’t always happen that way in real life, but it does happen and I love reading these stories. Now add a bit of a mystery and some intrigue and I am totally hooked.

Firefly Island is one of those kinds of books. I loved reading about the love at first sight they experienced and how Mallory fell in love with both Daniel and his son. Such a sweet story. I also loved the mystery part of it.

What I’m Reading – Rebekah

16 Feb
My Thoughts
The Bible is full of stories of parents preferring one child over others and the consequences that come from that. Rebekah’s story begins that same way. When Rebekah’s father is dying, her mother brings her son Laban to receive the blessing reserved for the eldest son. Her father’s death and her mother’s manipulation changes Rebekah’s life in so many ways. Not just in the wait to find a match, but also later in her life as a mother. She repeats what she had seen and did the same for her son. Her story is not just about how this decision played out in her life, but also the lives of her sons.

I so enjoyed this book. It is biblical historical fiction and is written so well.

What I’m Reading – Waiting for Spring

19 Jan
My Thoughts

I was surprised at how much I loved Waiting for Spring. I tend not to read period books, but had previously read one of Amanda Cabot’s books and enjoyed it so much that I had to read this one as well.

Charlotte is a widow with a young child who has had such a rough time of it with losing her husband and having to hide her true identity to keep her family safe. She is sweet and so kind-hearted. I instantly fell in love with her. She is a mother who fiercely protects her child almost to a fault due to his blindness, but through the story realizes that she isn’t alone. I love how she takes care of the people in her life from her son to the older man who owns the general store. She is so generous and helps those who others would frown upon her doing so. She is strong in her faith and it shows in how she lives her life.

About the Book

After the loss of her husband and the birth of her baby, Charlotte has had a long, hard year. But when a notorious robber believes she knows the location of a long-lost treasure, she flees to Cheyenne and opens a dressmaker’s shop to lie low and make a living. When wealthy cattle baron and political hopeful Barrett Landry enters the shop to visit her best customer, Charlotte feels drawn to him.

If Barrett is to be a senator of the soon-to-be state of Wyoming, he must make a sensible match, and Miriam has all the right connections. Yet he can’t shake the feeling that Charlotte holds the key to his heart and his future.
