Dear Fear…You Are A Liar

9 Apr
Well hello there fear.
You’ve invaded my space again and I’ve let you.
You tell me things like…
You can’t do this.
This isn’t for you.
You aren’t enough.
And so much more.
I know you are a liar, but in those weak moments I let you speak to my heart.
Listening to the lies and absorbing them.
Letting them take me to a place not meant for me.
I even hide behind you.
Using you as an excuse to stay in the comfortable.
My heart knows truth and longs for more.
More than you can offer or excuse.

Here’s just some of His truth.

I can do this.
For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
Philippians 4:13

 There are plans for me.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD.
“They are plans for good and not for disaster,
to give you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11

Dreams do come true.
Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart’s desires.
Psalm 37:4

I don’t have to know. I just have to trust.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
Proverbs 3:5

I am not in this alone.
So be strong and courageous!
Do not be afraid and do not panic before them.
For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you.
He will neither fail you nor abandon you.
Deuteronomy 31:6

I am treasured.
Others were given in exchange for you.
I traded their lives for yours
because you are precious to me.
You are honored, and I love you.
Isaiah 43:4

For so long I have listened to you. God is growing me in this with each step of faith that I am taking. The truth is that God speaks louder than your lies.
It is about my choice in who to hear. His truth is what I will take into my heart and His promises I will stand on. Oh I know that there may be moments that I falter in this, but He has a truth for that too – grace. I won’t get stuck in that stumble anymore. So know that I am declaring today that I am no longer letting you rule my life.

His (the biggest and best truth of all),
Me

What would you say to fear in a letter?
God-Sized Dreams

My friend Holley Gerth invited me to join a group of dreamers that she affectionately calls her God Sized Dream Team. What a blessing to be part of this group.
We will be gathering each week on Tuesdays at Holley’s to encourage each other to dream those God sized dreams.

Won’t you join us?

What I’m Reading – Fear, Faith, & a Fistful of Chocolate

My Thoughts

I absolutely LOVED this book!
The author shares about her fears and her faith in a way that makes you feel like you aren’t alone. It felt like sitting across the table from a girlfriend and sharing hearts. She is so transparent in her writing and made me laugh out loud throughout the book. I figure that any book that can make me laugh while talking about something like this is a definite must read. Each chapter begins with scripture and ends with questions to help dig a little deeper in our fears. A fantastic read that I highly recommend.

You can purchase the book here:

Where Fear Camps Out

5 Feb

Fear camps out right next to what it is you’re most called to do.
That means the closer you get to your calling, the louder fear gets.
– Holley Gerth

Fear is one of my biggest challenges in pursuing my God-sized dream.
Last week I shared how I am learning that it is less about the absence of fear and more about trusting Him with all of it.

The biggest lesson in doing that has been not to feed the fears and instead feed my faith. That means looking to His truths and not the lies that bind. You know those lies: Who do you think you are? How could you possibly do this? We all hear them. But the beauty of it is that we don’t have to be enslaved to them.

The fear may camp out beside me, but I don’t have to invite it into my tent.

One of His truths that I am standing on is:

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.

Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
Isaiah 41:10

Right There With Us

1 Feb
Today I am joining Lisa-Jo and friends for Five Minute Friday.
This is where we come together writing for 5 minutes without editing or overthinking.
I love this community.

Check out what everyone’s is sharing on the word AFRAID here.

Five Minute Friday

I remember what fear feels like.
It has been over seven years since we experienced Hurricane Wilma,
but it seems like yesterday.

We watched the news updates for days.
We bought all the supplies needed.
We were prepared for the storm coming.
We had already been through a few that year,
including Katrina and several tropical storms.
We were ready.

Until we heard that Wilma had changed course
and the eye of the storm was going to go directly over us.
So we moved the boys into the bathroom and
we were in the hallway just outside the bathroom.

My babies all laying on the floor of the bathroom.
D sitting beside me holding my hand so tight.
The wind and rain raged around us.
The sound unlike anything I have ever heard…like a freight train. So loud.
But not loud enough to drown out the sounds of my babies crying.
Then the walls that D and I were leaning on began to shake.

Sweet Jesus.
Right there with us.

My hands shake just typing this out.
We were afraid.
Then came the eye of the storm.
Strange that the rain and wind stopped.
It was the calm in the midst.
We were able to breathe in peace for a moment.

Sweet Jesus.
Right there with us.

Then the tail of the storm. Worse than the start.
Windows breaking. Walls shaking. My crying babies.
D saying over and over…love you.
Six hours.
We huddled together.
We couldn’t let go for awhile after it was all over.
I kept thinking…just breathe.
Everything changed with one storm.

Sweet Jesus.
Right there with us.

I remember what fear feels like.
I remember what He feels like more.

Be sure of this: I am with you always.
Matthew 28:20

Trusting Him With All Of It

29 Jan

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
Isaiah 41:10

One of my biggest challenges in pursuing my God-sized dream is fear.

When I was first asked to lead the Bible study for moms in our church, I was flat out scared. Stand on a platform and teach? I still get butterflies the size of cows thinking about the enormity of this calling.

As I prepared for our first gathering, I kept thinking that I shouldn’t be afraid and looked up every verse in the Bible about fear for encouragement.

What I realized though was that it wasn’t about the absence of fear. It was more about trusting Him with all of it. Admitting that all of it is only possible by His strength. That He would give me that strength when I asked. That He could speak through me in that moment. That I need Him. That I trust Him.

So I did it scared
And God showed up big and continues to do so each week.
From the very beginning, His hand has been all over this incredible
group of moms that I shepherd and our time together.
I must always remember that it all begins in the moment
when I turn it all over to God and let Him have His way in all of it.
More of Him and less of me.
All of Him in me and through me.

Women Redeemed Live Webcast

20 Sep
Women sharing their struggles, fears and hope!

{Live Webcast Event}

In coordination with the launch of their fall releases, Kregel Publications will be hosting a live webcast event on September 20th at 8 PM EDT featuring authors Kim Ketola (Cradle My Heart)Teske Drake (Hope for Today, Promises for Tomorrow), and Dawn Scott Jones (When a Woman You Love Was Abused).

The webcast will allow women to come together to share their struggles and fears in order to move toward healing and hope. Women will able to support one another and discuss shared experiences (abortion, miscarriage and abuse) in a non-threatening, open and loving environment.

Cat Hoort of Kregel says, “We are seeking to provide safe means for Christian women to be vulnerable with each other, to seek help and guidance from authors and counselors, and to find encouragement from those who have shared similar experiences. Our hope is that the Women Redeemed webcast will become a forum for hurting women as well as for those who can help. Kim, Teske, and Dawn are all survivors and their stories will surely inspire and equip other women to move toward healing and hope.”

Please join tonight’s webcast and connect with the authors, talk about your own experiences, make some new friends, and win a prize! Hope to see you there!
