One of the things that D loves to do with our boys is creative projects.
He loves to find things that just need a little love to make them like new.
This past weekend they actually started two.

This is a small wooden deck to one side of our backyard.
It is large enough for a few chairs and maybe even a table.

The plan is to sand it down and repair worn places in the wood.
Then they will stain it with a natural finish.
Can you tell how much our little man loved getting to use a sander?
This is the second project they are working on. These are chairs D found and just knew that I would love them. They will be doing the same with these just like the deck – sanding, repairing, and staining.
While they all enjoy doing these projects, the best part is getting to spend that time together. They have the most wonderful conversations, listen to their favorite music, and do a whole lot of laughing together.
They aren’t just creating projects.
They are creating memories.

I think it is so important (and fun!) to get kids involved in crafty projects. It teaches them valuable skills while also providing bonding time.

Thanks Audra! You know Home Depot and Lowes both have FREE crafty Saturday activities that your boys would love. Mine made bookends, birdfeeders, and even a truck once. You can find out the details of when they have those days in your area by checking their website or asking at the store. You can also pick up similar craft projects at WalMart now in the craft section like bird feeders and cars.

So true! I love the pictures we have taken over time of our family working together on projects. There is such a sense of accomplishment, and the kids get to really feel that when they help.Those orbital sanders are nifty, aren't they? The only down side is that if you use them for a long time, the vibration gets really annoying to your hand. 🙂

Yes! Was just thinking today how sweet it would be to have grandbabies sitting on them and telling them the stories of how grandpa & daddy made it new again!

Yes our boys love to help and their smiles are so big once the projects are finished. I had to laugh at my little man trying to keep control over the sander. Many times we heard "whoops" as it almost got away from him. 🙂
